Thrips Damage: Silver Streaks, Scarring, and Distorted Growth on Houseplant Leaves

Silvery streaks, bronze patches, papery scarring, or distorted new leaves on your houseplant are the hallmarks of thrips feeding damage.

Thrips are tiny, fast-moving insects that feed by puncturing the outer layer of plant tissue and sucking out the contents of individual cells. The result is a very specific kind of damage: pale, silvery, or bronze streaking and patching on leaf surfaces, often accompanied by small black specks of frass (insect droppings). Because the insects themselves are barely visible to the naked eye and often hide inside buds and rolled leaves, many plant owners notice the damage long before they ever spot the culprit. Will the silvery streaks and scars on my plant's leaves ever go away?
